here are my normal raw materials, a selection of about five months worth of collecting on walks. My outdoor workspace gives me a chance to store the junk, often dirty from being found outside, and getting dirtier through the rains...
here I am thinking about what to make from all these disparate items. At The Folk Tree Gallery where I show and sell my assemblages, a theme of fanciful flight gets me to thinking, arranging and trying out ideas, a time to let the right brain loose...

OWL
the result is OWL, something I will submit to FTG later this new year....I have had the hard nut bouncing around for longer than five months actually, the old fragment of a pine cone came from a summer excursion and the green twig on stump has already tried to be several other pieces of art!
when I touch the objects, sounds corny, but they tell me, or at least suggest to me, what I should try.

outcome of same day in the studio. The shotgun shells made it home with me after a long walk in the mountains after deer season. sorry it's legal, but it is. my comment with shells and a very old beer can, pretty but thoughtful, interesting and somewhat unsettling....I hope
so much fun to 1. make the initial decision of what to pick up and take home to store
2. to re-discover the various objects when I need or want to work
3. to embark on the final part of the process, making decisions informed
by all I have ever done or read or learned or felt
